On the occasion of the 131st birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar who headed the committee that drafted the Indian Constitution, the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department has decided to make "Introduction to Indian Constitution" a compulsory subject, cited reports. 

According to accounts, this will be made mandatory for students of all universities in Maharashtra irrespective of their stream. Uday Samant, the state higher and technical education minister, took to Twitter to share this announcement. 

His tweet read, "On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on 14th April, the decision to make the introduction of Indian Constitution compulsory for all the faculties of all the universities was taken unanimously in the meeting of the Vice Chancellors of all the universities held yesterday."

It has been reported that certain crucial points and concepts of the constitution will be identified to conduct this preparatory class. The said class will be conducted by political science professors, remarked narratives. 

An official was quoted in reports elaborating on how this is a tentative plan and further development will be done prior to the initiative rolls coming in the next academic year. They also have to decide which year this will be implemented with the idea being that all students should know the important parts of the Indian Constitution.
