Students who are awaiting their HSC results will now have the option to join Maharashtra's First Cluster University once their results are out. Dr. Homi Bhabha State University (HBSU), which is a cluster of the Institute of Science (ISc), Elphinstone College, Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, and Secondary Training (ST) Colleges are all located in Churchgate and Fort. 

Dr. Suhas Pednekar, Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University said that the idea is to bring together the staff and infrastructure of all four colleges and make them available for students. It allows horizontal mobility, so students can get credits by choosing from a variety of subjects across the four campuses.

The prime difference between Mumbai University and Cluster University is that the former offers courses which are strictly divided by disciplines, whereas, the latter creates integrated courses across disciplines and gives students options across science, commerce, humanities and economics. 

Another proposed Cluster University in Maharashtra is the amalgamation of Hassaram Rajumal (HR) College, Kishinchand Chellaram (KC) College and Bombay Teacher Training College under the Hyderabad Sind National Collegiate Board (HSNCB).
