On Thursday, November 11, the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) stated that it would refund the exam fee collected from grade 10 and 12 students for board exams in February-March 2021, starting today, November 12.

This development came nearly three months after the Bombay High Court (HC) directed them to do so. The activists had also questioned the board on not returning INR 150 crore charged from nearly 34 lakh SSC and HSC students. The amount was collected in the year when board exams across states and education boards did not take place due to coronavirus

The notification stated that they will be following the Bombay HC order and refund the exam fee amount to the students. The students in order to get the refund will have to log in to their website - mahagsscboard.in. They will then have to fill in the information on the links provided.

The board charge the fees to cover charges for paper setters, invigilators, paper assessment, transportation of question and answer booklets, etc. However, none of this happened this year, and so the state board should keep the large sum of money, said a city-based teacher.

It is since May this year, the activists have been demanding the exam fee refund and now the process for the same has begun.
