MU Announces Admission Schedule For First-Year Students Without CBSE, ISC Results

In a shocking move, for the first time ever, the University of Mumbai has announced the schedule for admissions to all its affiliated colleges for first-year aspirants while the students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of School Education (ICSE) are still waiting for their Class 12 results.

This decision by MU has been heavily criticised for being unfair and discriminatory.

Due to delay in conducting exams for the CBSE and CISCE, both boards are yet to release results for class 12 whereas the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) declared class 12 (HSC) results last week.

According to the schedule released by the by the university, after the application process gets over on June 25, the first merit list will be declared on June 29. Students will have time till July 6 to confirm admissions and a second merit list will be out in July 7.

Moreover, admissions under the minority quota will also end on June 25, the schedule further stated.

The circular, issued by Director of Board of Examination and Evaluation at Mumbai University, directs all affiliated colleges, including those with autonomous status, to strictly adhere to the admission schedule.

With this, all HSC students will first get admitted to colleges as per their scores and preferences, while CBSE and ISC students will have to approach colleges individually after their results are announced.

The colleges may get permission from university for additional seats in excess of the intake to admit CBSE and ICSE board students as per colleges merit cut-off in due course, the statement further added.

Earlier, the university had decided to wait for all results to be announced before announcing the admission schedule on Monday late evening, June 20.

In a major setback for students, this year, there is no clarity yet on when Class 12 results for CBSE and ICSE will be declared. Usually, they are announced before results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.
