The first departments established in Mumbai University were the Faculty of Arts at Elphinstone College in 1835 and the Faculty of Medicine at Grant Medical College in 1845.

Established in 1857, the University of Mumbai, or Mumbai University (MU), is spread over 13 acres of land and is one of the largest universities in the world.

Moreover, the first departments established were the Faculty of Arts at Elphinstone College in 1835 and the Faculty of Medicine at Grant Medical College in 1845. Both colleges existed before the university was founded and surrendered their degree-granting privileges to the university. In addition, the first degrees awarded in 1862 were Bachelor of Arts and Licentiate in Medicine.

In recent developments, earlier on March 24, MU informed that it is to conduct the examinations for the final-semester online. Moreover, the varsity announced that the examination will be conducted at the college level with multiple choice questions for traditional courses and descriptive questions for the vocational courses.

According to reports, the final or Semester 6 regular and backlog theory exams of UG courses under Arts, Commerce and Science will be conducted from May 6 to 21. The Semester 1 to 4 regular and backlog exams will be conducted from April 15 to May 5. The Semester 5 backlog exams will be conducted from May 24 to June 2, 2021. The final-semester examinations usually take place in the month of April, however, with the spike in cases of coronavirus, they have been pushed to May for now.
