Mumbai University’s yearly convocation that was previously slated to be held on December 10, will now be conducted on December 27, stated reports. Nearly 100 students, that include 18 medallists and PhD holders will be in attendance.

Based on reports, this will be the first public event with students since the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, a day prior to the convocation being held last week, the university had decided to postpone the event.

It cited “unavoidable circumstances” for the same. Last year’s convocation was conducted virtually considering the pandemic. Back then, according to reports, university officials also claimed that they were apprised about the postponement from the “higher authorities” without citing any reason.

During the earlier planned convocation, full vaccination was compulsory for all those invited. On the other hand, those with one dose were asked to get a negative RT-PCR test report. Moreover, back then, there were multiple speculations during rounds on why the event was postponed.

In other developments, the University of Mumbai's (MU) distance education wing, The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), also started registrations for admissions to the 2021-22 batch. It will be the first time entrance exams will be held for their newly launched MBA and MMS (Master of Management Studies) program.
