It wouldn't be wrong to say that the Mumbai University has been under the radar for wrong reasons. As per the sources, MU has hiked examination fees for students from INR 700 to INR 5,000 which is approx 566 per cent for the ongoing Ph.D. or MPhil examinations.

Shocked by the fee hike, students alleged that the fee hike was announced in March 2017 but the circular dated August 16, 2017 was shown four days before the exam.

One of the MPhil students, on the condition of an anonymity, informed that the department was confused with the mode of payment. He added that the fee for the entrance test was hiked from INR 100 to INR 2000 and synopsis submission fees hiked from INR 5,000 to INR 10,000.

Meanwhile, MU’s registrar Dinesh Kamble said that the final decision on fee hike will be taken after Diwali, further adding that MU did not hike fees in years while other varsities usually hike fees every year between 5 to 10 per cent.
