Classes from 1st to 8th in schools under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will begin from June 16, and on the very first day, students will be given free textbooks. All necessary preparations for this have been made by the Education Department under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.
A total of 61,879 students studying in 152 schools—including NMMC-run and private aided schools—will receive these free textbooks.
The free textbook scheme under the Samagra Shiksha program has been started to ensure that no child from Classes 1 to 8 is left without books, so that their learning is not interrupted. The aim is also to ensure 100% attendance and reduce dropout rates to zero.
