Amidst the protests regarding conducting the JEE and NEET examinations, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by Ashok Bhushan is to hear a petition filed by ministers from six non-BJP ruled states on Friday.

Six states, which includes Maharashtra, had earlier moved the Supreme Court seeking review of its initial order in favour of conducting the examinations in the month of September.

On August 28, six ministers from non-BJP states filed a review petition in the apex court in a bid to seek review of its order permitting the Centre to conduct the JEE and NEET entrance examinations this year in the midst of the pandemic.

The review plea has been filed by ministers from Maharashtra (Uday Ravindra Sawant), West Bengal (Moloy Ghatak), Jharkhand (Rameshwar Oraon), Rajasthan (Raghu Sharma), Chhattisgarh (Amarjeet Bhagat), and Punjab (BS Sidhu).

In the past, the SC had rejected a petition filed by several students seeking cancellation of the exams further stating that the NEET for medical admissions and the JEE examinations for IIT admissions would be held as per the scheduled schedule. This decision got into a lot of controversies, as students long with several popular leaders across the country protested against this decision in view of the pandemic.
