As many as 47 schools were found to be unauthorised in Thane municipal area this year. Most of the unofficial schools are of English medium. If an unauthorised school is open, the school administration will be fined INR 1 lakh and if the school is still open, a fine of INR 10,000 per day will be imposed. In spite of this, since the Municipal Corporation is not taking action on these schools, the role of the administration is also being questioned. Concern is being expressed about the future of students studying in these schools.

Unauthorised schools are running in Thane municipal area without any recognition from the state government. Of these, 42 schools are English medium, two Marathi and three Hindi medium schools. 85 percent of the unofficial schools are located in Diva and Mumbra towns.

The Municipal Corporation recently published the list of these unauthorised schools. So It was also said that action will be taken against this school administration as per Section 18 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. As per the rules, the school is being run without permission certificate from the local authority or even after the school's recognition has been withdrawn. So, there is a provision of a fine of INR 1 lakh to the concerned and a fine of INR 10,000 per day if the school continues to operate illegally.

However, the Municipal Corporation has published only the lists of these schools through advertisements in newspapers. Also the task of serving notice has been completed. Notably, boards were expected to be placed outside such schools not to admit students to the respective school. But due to lack of public awareness, admissions to such schools continued. Therefore, the question of the future of these students has also arisen.

Most of these schools have been built in chawls, alleys. The construction of schools is also not in good condition. Having a playground in front of the school, the building should be good. These rules are also not being followed.
