In a remarkable achievement, this year, three schools from Maharashtra have been listed for the second annual USD 250,000 World’s Best School Prizes, organised in the United Kingdom (UK). Of the three, two schools are based in Mumbai.

In addition, a total of five schools in India have made it to the Top 10 shortlists in each category to honour and celebrate schools worldwide for their enormous contribution to society’s progress especially at the crucial times like COVID-19.

The list includes schools in Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The World's Best Schools Awards are divided into 5 categories -- community collaboration, environmental action, innovation, overcoming adversity and supporting healthy living.

Moreover, the award encourages schools to play an important role in the development of the next generation of society.

It is pertinent to note that Indian schools running for the prize/award includes both private and public education institutes.

Here's the list of schools:

1. Oberoi International School, Mumbai: It’s a private school following the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and is known for its commitment to providing a holistic learning experience and preparing students for success in the global arena. The school has been shortlisted in the Community Collaboration category for bringing hope, empathy, and shared possibilities to its students and surrounding communities.

2. Snehalaya English Medium School, Ahmednagar: It’s a charity school in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district and is known for providing education to underprivileged children in the region. The school has worked best in transforming the lives of children affected with HIV and those from sex worker families.

With this, it has managed to end second-generation prostitution in its district. The school has been shortlisted for the World’s Best School Prize for Overcoming Adversity category.

3. Shindewadi Mumbai Public School (Dadar): A charter school run by the Akanksha Foundation (a non-profit organization). The school has been shortlisted in the category of Supporting Healthy Lives for its integral role in attempting to reverse the impact of low immunity and poor nutrition among its students and wider community after the lockdown.

4. Riverside School, Ahmedabad

5. Nagar Nigam Pratibha Balika Vidyalaya (NPBV) F-Block Dilshad Colony

The Prizes were established in 2022 by the digital media platform T4 Education to share the best practices of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference in their communities.

The top three finalists for each of the five World’s Best School Prizes will be announced in September, followed by the winners in October.

The amount of US$ 2,50,000 will be shared equally among the five winners with each receiving USD 50,000 along with the title of the Best School Award.
