Actor and producer Sanjay Suri has been known for his contribution to Indian Cinema, be it commercial and independent. As a producer, he has constantly promoted films with niche subjects or the ones which reach a limited audience. As the founder of Kahwa Entertainment, he has brought award-winning foreign language films in India, thereby building scope and opportunity for them. Over the years, he has brought films like Ash is the Purest White, Yommedine, Shoplifters and others, and now he is presenting Palma dor winning film 'Les Miserables.'

The film has been loved by the audience across the world. Besides the Cannes film festival, Les Miserables was also a part of the Academy Awards and has been screened at multiple film festivals globally

On being asked about bringing the film in India and presenting it to the audience here, Sanjay said, "When I saw Les Miserables, I wanted to release it, but I waited for the Oscar journey as if would help the release. As Indians, we have an attachment to the Oscars due to the commercial aspect. This film is likeable despite the language. It has got great acting, has a good script with impressive camera movements and technical work. Moreover, it 'punches you in the stomach' and seduces one into the screenplay, leaving a question at the end. I connected with the film immediately, especially because I have been a victim of ethnic cleansing."

Two members of the cast Alexis Manenti and Omar Soumare were a part of the media interactions which were held recently in the city.

We spoke to Alexis Manenti about how relevant this movie is given the times that we are in. He spoke how he plays a dishonest cop in the movie who is violent, corrupt and dishonest. He further shared, "I think it is a very relevant movie as it talks about the tension between communities and also tension between police. We did not expect that the movie will touch so many people and we are very proud of the feedback that we have got. There are people who leave the theatre in tears or say that they have been touched by it and have seen it three to four times. It has been a great journey for us".

The movie is based on true incidents that happened in France in 2005. The film will release in India on March 13, 2020.
