Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced the planting of 10 crore trees under the 'Green Maharashtra, Prosperous Maharashtra' campaign to increase the percentage of afforestation in the state.
Fadnavis said that the goal is to plant 10 crore trees next year as well, and this campaign will be successful only if tree planting becomes a people's movement.
A meeting was held at the Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Fadnavis regarding the tree plantation campaign. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Additional Chief Secretary Milind Mhaiskar and others were present on this occasion. Maharashtra has planted a large number of trees in the last eight years. It has successfully achieved the target of planting 33 crore and 50 crore trees in the past. Therefore, this year's target can definitely be met. Fadnavis suggested that modern technology like artificial intelligence and tools like remote sensing, satellites, etc. should be used while monitoring tree plantation.

All departments should identify the land and quality saplings for the 10 crore tree plantation drive. Local bodies, Zilla Parishads should participate in the tree plantation drive and social organisations should also be involved.
The responsibility of tree plantation along the national highways, state highways and palanquin routes in the state will now be entrusted to the Forest Department. Fadnavis mentioned that since a large number of industries are coming up in Gadchiroli district, tree plantation is necessary and there is a plan to plant one crore trees next year.
