Amid the coronavirus pandemic, a nationwide lockdown is in effect since the last two months. Owing to this, a majority of corporates have asked their employees to continue to work from home. In a recent survey conducted by a New Delhi communications initiative, Climate Trends, it was revealed that 81 per cent of people from urban regions believe that working from home will have an impact on air quality whereas 70 per cent of individuals who took the survey still intend to continue working from home even after the lockdown.
The survey which was conducted along with YouGov, a market research firm, collected responses from 1,082 professionals in 10 cities, including Mumbai, which is the financial capital of the country. The survey covered points such as lockdown experiences, and willingness to change ways to reduce air pollution among others.
The survey further revealed that 62 per cent of individuals preferred to walk a short distance than take a bus, whereas 37 per cent showed a willingness to use public transport for short distances.
49 per cent said that they were ready to buy an electric vehicle if charging facilities were available in the country and if the vehicles were affordable.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai alone, 65 per cent stated that they would demand Work From Home as it may lead to cleaner air and less traffic in the city. Climate Trends director Aarti Khosla said that the findings will be useful for the policy-makers as it could provide insights on how to gradually end the lockdown.
