The decision to form a council came on Wednesday by Maharashtra Government based on a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change about carbon impact. Aaditya Thackeray said that within a month action plan will be prepared to deal with the challenges posed by the climate crisis.

Thackeray had mentioned that the cabinet has asked the council to prepare an action plan which has to be presented after one month. Post the cabinet meeting on Wednesday he said, “Climate change is impacting us. We believe this is a climate emergency. Today we presented the IPCC report before the cabinet and an important decision has been made to set up a State Council for Climate Change under the chairmanship of the chief minister. The cabinet has asked us to prepare an action plan which we will present after one month."

Aaditya Thackeray tweeted that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change will work on formulating action plans for other departments such as Energy, transport, etc after the cabinet approves the same.

The minister further mentioned that climate change is noticeable as of late the state has experienced an extreme change in the weather with a shorter number of winter and rainy days and an increase is the number of warmer days.
