On Tuesday, minimum temperatures dipped in Mumbai for yet another day. On Monday, the night temperature recorded at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory was 16 degrees Celsius, down from 16.8 degrees and 2.8 degrees below normal. The Colaba observatory recorded a minimum of 19 degrees, 1.4 degrees below normal—the minimum recorded there on Monday was 20 degrees. The steady drop in mercury could be attributed to winds from the north, said IMD officials.

On Tuesday, the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 215 on average. Among the 20 locations monitored by Safar, the most polluted was Mazgaon, where an AQI of 327 was recorded. The least polluted was Worli, with an AQI of 85. AQI in the 0-50 range is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401 and above severe. On Wednesday, Safar has forecast the city’s average AQI at 210—in other words, poor.
On Tuesday, contrary to the minimum temperature trend, the maximum recorded in the city were higher than the previous day. At Santacruz, 31.5 degrees was recorded—0.8 degrees below normal. At Colaba, it was 30.5 degrees—1.6 degrees below normal. On Monday, the corresponding temperatures at Santacruz and Colaba were 30.8 and 30.2 degrees.
