Following heavy rain in Thane district, two persons died after a compound wall of a municipal council garden collapsed on Wednesday night, October 6, in Ambarnath.

The garden is located in front of a gas godown in Mahalaxmi Nagar, Ambernath East.

The officials added that two deceased men were identified as Govind Kesarkar, 38, and Pravin Kadam, 30. While one of them was declared brought dead at the local hospital, the other was shifted to the Thane civil hospital, the official said.

After the incident, the Ambernath municipal administration, fire brigade and deputy tehsildar rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. The work of lifting the piles of this wall has been taken up immediately by the Ambernath Municipality.

R B Patil, fire officer of Ambernath fire brigade said that they used a JCB machine to check if anybody else was stuck below the debris.

The fire team said that a compound wall of around 15 meters length having height up to 15 feet collapsed towards the narrow lane side used by locals.
