A low pressure area will be formed in the Arabian Sea by Wednesday, June 7; therefore, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that it is likely to turn into a cyclone. It will be named as Cyclone Biperjoy.

Owing to this, the weather department has predicted that Mumbai, Thane and Konkan will receive rains by the end of this week.

The IMD has said that the cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Southeast Arabian Sea from June 5 to June 7. This could lead to the formation of a low-pressure area and develop into a cyclone within 48 hours.

Heavy rains and flash floods are likely to occur in Maharashtra along with Mumbai and Konkan region due to the formation of low pressure area over the Arabian Sea.

For a cyclone to form, the sea surface temperature needs to be 27 degrees Celsius. At present, the temperature of the Arabian Sea is around 31 degrees Celsius, which is favorable for cyclones.

Meanwhile, some private weather organisations have predicted that this storm will move towards Gujarat.
