In a shocking news, Mumbaikars might witness light rains or thunderstorms for two days bringing some respite to the march heat.

According to a five-day forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thundershower and/or rainfall activity is expected over parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane and several others.

In the statement released by the weather department, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rain along with gusty winds speeding 30-40kmph at the isolated places is likely to be witnessed in several districts of Maharashtra. These districts include Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Satara among others.

Moreover, a senior IMD official stated that hailstorms are expected between March 8-9 in the North Maharashtra, which includes Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik along with Marathawada (Aurangabad) and Vidarbha, which falls under Central Maharashtra.

"Due to east wind confluence and trough in easterlies in the central part of the country, between 7 to 10 March in Maharashtra, Gujarat, East Rajasthan and West. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm in Madhya Pradesh," tweeted KS Hosalikar.

Mumbai on Sunday, March 6 and Monday, March 7, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius and 32.6 degrees Celsius at IMD's Colaba and Santacruz observatory.

Meanwhile, earlier, in the beginning of March, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the temperature will rise above average this summer in Mumbai.

After weeks of pleasant weather, a combination of humidity, low wind speed and rise in temperature in Mumbai has been witnessed in March first week.
