The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) administration has decided to ban the production and sale of Plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesha idols in Kalyan Dombivli municipal limits this year as well, following the order of the Central Pollution Control Board. The KDMC Administration has appealed that sculptors should emphasise on production of Ganesha idols that are environmentally friendly.
Sculptors, artisans, and sellers must register with the KDMC to manufacture and sell Ganesha idols within the municipal limits. Sculptors, vendors, artisans who do not register with the municipality, will not be allowed to sell idols within the municipality limits, said Commissioner of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation Dr. Indurani Jakhar. The Central Pollution Control Board has banned Plaster of Paris idol products through the revised new guidelines of May 2020. It will be strictly followed by Kalyan Dombivli Municipality.

Planning will be done in the municipal ward offices to allow sculptors, manufacturers, artisans, vendors to start factories for making idols, to set up platforms for selling idols. Commissioner Dr. Jakhar has explained that the employees of the municipality's health department will take action against those who do not take such permission.
A copy of municipal permission should be affixed by every sculptor, artist, or seller in the facade of the factory, shop. The commissioner has appealed to the sculptors to emphasise on making idols that are easy to dissolve in water using eco-friendly, shadu clay, natural colours. Commissioner Dr Indurani Jakhar has warned that action will be taken against those who violate these guidelines.
