Two boys die due to lightening in Palghar; fourth death reported in a week

The incident was reported on Wednesday, September 9, near Kurje dam in Talasari taluka. The locality, in the evening, witnessed rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms.

In an unfortunate incident, two people were killed in a lightning strike near Kurje dam located in the Talasari taluka of Palghar district. The incident occurred in the evening on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. On receiving the information, Talasari police and tehsildar reached the spot to investigate the matter. This is the third incident reported from the locality in the last three days.

As per reports, the incident took place near the Kurje dam when it was raining with thunderstorms. The deceased have been identified as Sachin Jayaram Kuwara (27) and Atul Babu Gowari (18).

Meanwhile, on September 6, two other people were killed in a lightning strike in Dahanu and Wada talukas. Nitesh Halya Tumbada (20) was killed in a power outage at Tawa in Dahanu taluka, while Shantaram Diva was killed in Wada taluka. Besides them, five other children youths were injured.

It is said that the rainfall was accompanied by thunder on Sunday evening, and these young men stopped under a tree to protect themselves from the rain. However, Sagar Shantaram Diva was electrocuted in an incident and died on the spot. Other boys with him - Sandeep Ankush Diva (25), Ananta Chandrakant Wagh (24), Ravindra Madhav Pawar (18), Nitesh Manohar Diva (19) and Sunny Balu Pawar (18)  - were injured, and have been admitted to Khanivali Primary Health Center.

The city of Mumbai and nearby areas have been receiving rainfall over the last few months. While Mumbai has not experienced heavy showers in the last few days, other localities nearby have continuously received rainfall.
