On Sunday, May 22, Maharashtra joined the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Plastic Action Partnership to propel regional regional attempts to fight plastic pollution, reports stated. According to accounts, the new partnership was proclaimed during the WEF Annual Meeting 2022.

Based on narratives, Maharashtra is now a list of economies that will make use of the GPAP platform to drive localised solutions for the circular economy. It has been reported that the partnership will amalgamate the state's policy-makers, business leaders, civil society organizations and experts.

They will curate a state-level plan to remove plastic pollution as well as connect high-potential solutions with smart financing opportunities.

Maharashtra minister for environment, Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter to say, "Inaugurated the Maharashtra pavilion at Davos with Ministers Subhash Desai ji and Nitin Raut ji. Maharashtra has a strong presence at Davos this year and we intend to make it better, at all global platforms, for Maharashtra. A stronger Maharashtra for a stronger India."

A statement from the WEF reportedly elucidated that the Maharashtra environment ministry will work with the GPAP to launch a National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) in the state to address plastic waste pollution. It has been reported that the GPA-Maharashtra is the first in the country.
