Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its 24-hour forecast had earlier predicted the possibility of light rain or thundershowers. Moreover, KS Hosalikar, head SID, Climate Research & Services, IMD Pune, said a severe weather warning has been sounded for the coming five days in Maharashtra.

However, earlier on May 30, the IMD had informed that the arrival of monsoons is likely to face a delay by two days, and will make an onset over Kerala by June 3.

According to reports, speaking about the same, IMD Director General M Mohapatra stated that there is cyclonic circulation along the Karnataka coast which is hindering the progress of the southwest monsoon. "The southwesterly winds could strengthen further gradually from 1 June, resulting in likely enhancement in rainfall activity over Kerala. Hence the monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to take place around 3 June," he informed.

Moreover, as a result of the strengthening of lower-level southwesterly winds, fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls are very likely over northeastern states during the next five days.
