No Heat Wave Warning In Mumbai For Next 5 Days, says IMD

Owing to the rising mercury levels in Maharashtra, a severe heatwave is expected in several districts of the state in the coming days. This will be the second consecutive heat wave in March after the one which hit Konkan and Vidarbha from March 17 to 19.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heat wave conditions in isolated places of north Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada from Wednesday, March 30. Owing to the rising mercury levels in Maharashtra, a severe heatwave is expected in several districts of the state in the coming days.

Explaining further, IMD official Jayant Sarkar stated: "Heatwave warnings have been announced in some districts in Madhya Maharashtra including Ahmednagar, Solapur, Jalgaon, and Marathwada districts including Aurangabad, Hingoli, Parbhani, and Jalna for next 3 days. No heatwave warning in Mumbai for the next 5 days."

This will be the second consecutive heat wave in March after the one which hit Konkan and Vidarbha from March 17 to 19.

The weather department said that on March 29, the heat waves are expected in Amravati, Akola and Buldhana in West Vidarbha, while on March 30 in Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Jalgaon and Hingoli.

On the other hand, from tomorrow, the day temperature in Mumbai is likely to soar to 37 degrees Celsius, which is 4-5 degrees above normal; however, no heatwave warning has been issued for now for the city.

On Tuesday, March 29, the maximum temperature recorded at IMD’s Santacruz observatory was normal at 33.4 degrees Celsius, while the night or the minimum temperature was 23 degrees Celsius. Whereas, the Colaba observatory recorded maximum temperature at 32.5 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of 23.5 degrees Celsius.

Mumbai too experienced high temperatures and heatwave-like conditions recently.

On Monday, March 28, Akola in Vidarbha region was the hottest in the state with the day temperature soaring to 42.9 degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast issued by the weather bureau, a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degree Celsius is very likely over Maharashtra during the next five days.

Besides, as per the seven-day forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius till April 2. Partly cloudy skies are likely starting next month.
