Taking cognizance of the worsening air quality and increasing pollution in Mumbai, the Bombay High Court has directed the local administration to implement measures to prevent pollution. Not enough trees are being planted to prevent the increasing pollution in Mumbai. A second Miyawaki forest is being planted at the state government's Cama Hospital to curb the rising pollution in Mumbai. Miyawaki Forest stands on an area of about 7 thousand square feet in the premises of Cama Hospital, and 45 different types of 1500 trees are being planted in it.


In the name of development, the construction in Mumbai is increasing the pollution. As a result, the health of Mumbaikars is at risk. To prevent the increasing pollution in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced guidelines along with taking measures. But the role of trees is important in preventing pollution. Therefore, a second Miyawaki Forest is being set up at the state government's Cama Hospital. This Miyawaki will be built through the Glenmark Foundation. Adulsa, amla, cinnamon, gum, almond, fanas, kadipatta, mango, kokum, nagchafa, karvand, pimpal, shami, seetha ashok, sonchafa, betel nut, tejpatta, wad, ritha, parijat, nirgundi etc. 45 species of indigenous and 45 species will be in this forest. Trees with Ayurvedic properties are being planted as well.

This forest is being built on a 7 thousand square feet area. A garden has been arranged by the hospital administration to take care of this Miyawaki forest. Taking care of the trees in the forest, applying fertilisers to them, the trees are being watered twice a day. Drip irrigation system is being used for proper water supply to the plants. In Miyawaki Park, plastic wrap is placed around the trees to prevent evaporation of the water that feeds the trees. Superintendent of Cama Hospital informed that proper guidance is being given by the organisation for the maintenance of this park and they are going to monitor the cultivation of trees, said Tushar Palve, Medical Superintendent,Cama hospital.


First Miyawaki Park on 15 thousand square feet

On the occasion of World Vasundhara Day in 2022, a forest has been created in the Miyawaki style on a 15 thousand square feet area in the premises of Cama Hospital. As many as 7026 trees have been planted in this. The Miyawaki Forest contains trees that play an important role in maintaining biodiversity. Due to this forest, it will help to produce a large amount of oxygen and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide.
