According to the latest reports, Mumbai’s Xavier’s Institute of Engineering in Mahim has installed electric vehicle (EV) chargers. The charging facility is reportedly being used by the staff members.

Based on accounts, the institute is looking to shift the regular population on the campus. Fr. (Dr.) John Rose was quoted in narratives elaborating on how as an engineering institute it was important for them to consider energy alternatives on the campus. With two electric cars and one scooter already making use of the facility, they hope that the charging facility will encourage more to make the move.

The institute’s director hopes to encourage all Jesuit institutes in Mumbai and India to consider their approach. Apart from the latest, EV charging facility, the educational institute has also introduced other environmentally friendly measures that include biogas and solar energy.

Moreover, since the institute is located near the sea, they have also put into force wind-energy solutions. Apart from this, the institute is adopting plants that are growing on its five-acre land alongside a medicinal-plant garden.

In other developments, an EV charging station was also inaugurated Kandivali Education Society’s (KES) B K Shroff College Of Arts and M H Shroff College Of Commerce in February. The facility can charge up to four two-wheelers at a time.
