Mumbaikars are most likely to get a relief from the scorching heat as the weather experts have anticipated first pre-monsoon thunderstorms and rain in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) during the period of May 11-14.

According to the latest forecast, south Mumbai will receive more rain than Mumbai suburbs, while the southern and eastern parts of the MMR will receive more rain than the rest of the MMR.

Residents might wake up to cloudy skies and rainy mornings on both Sunday and Monday, May 12-13, evoking the imminent arrival of the monsoon season.

Mumbai city and Palghar are likely to witness the highest likelihood of precipitation, particularly during the early hours of Sunday and the evening hours of Monday.

Mumbai and coastal Maharashtra conditions are looking more favorable for moderate rains.

On the other hand, heavy rains are also predicted in Pune, Ghat sections of MMR and Southern Maharashtra. Earlier, India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted the possibility of rainfall in the ghat areas by the third week of May.

Areas including Kalyan, Karjat, Ulhasnagar, and certain parts of Navi Mumbai are most likely to experience substantial rainfall, however, not necessarily on all five days.

Owing to this, May is expected to be relatively cooler this year.
