After a short-term hiatus, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has again forecast thunderstorms for two-three days starting tonight, October 11 in Mumbai. This is likely to bring relief from hot and humid weather in the city.

It is pertinent to note that Mumbai saw moderate to heavy rains from Friday evening, October 7 for nearly 24 hours after a brief dry spell. However, the city again saw no rainfall activity for the next two days.

IMD, in its five-day forecast for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, has indicated thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places being very likely. Although, from October 13 onwards only light rain has been forecast with no thunder activity.

Apart from that, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad districts are also likely to experience thundershowers for the next two days.

The weather has also predicted that monsoon is likely to withdraw around October 16 from the city; however, unseasonal rains on couple of days in late October or early November is possible.       

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai and its suburbs will witness partly cloudy skies with moderate rain or thundershowers today. But, the city has not witnessed any rainfall activity so far in the day. Meanwhile, a low tide of 0.34 meters is likely to occur on October 11 at 6.42 pm.

As on 8:30 am October 11, IMD recorded the maximum temperature in Santacruz observatory was 31.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 25.6 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, at Colaba, the maximum temperature was 31.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius.
