Mumbaikars on Wednesday, December 29, witnessed season’s coolest morning so far as the city temperature dipped to 17.4 degrees Celsius. However, today, December 30, the minimum temperature slightly rose to 19.5 degree Celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory.

Earlier, on December 24, the mercury had dropped below the 18 degrees Celsius mark on December 24, when it settled at 17.9 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday’s minimum temperature is down from 19 degrees Celsius the previous day, December 28. Moreover, the maximum temperature on Thursday December 30, recorded at IMD's Santacruz laboratory was 30.3 degrees Celsius.

The weather department officials attributed the dip to the influence of a cold snap blowing over the Konkan, carrying cooler air from north India. Owing to this, in a relief to Mumbaikars, the air quality in Mumbai improved to the ‘moderate’ category on Wednesday evening, with an AQI value of 173, as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research’s (SAFAR) network of monitors in the city.

Meanwhile, as per IMD’s seven-day forecast for the city, the minimum temperature is expected to rise slightly over the next week, touching 19 degrees Celsius once again by December 31 and 21 degrees Celsius by January 3.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius during this time, up from the 29.3 degrees Celsius reading on Tuesday (which was two degrees below normal).
