On and off rain to continue over Mumbai : Skymet
SHARES

After a dry spell, Mumbai has been receiving bountiful rainfall since Thursday night. In the last 24 hours too the central and northern suburbs have received heavy to very heavy rains but there has been a significant decrease in the southern suburbs, according to Skymet, which is a weather forecasting body. Furthermore, it notes that Santacruz recorded 116 mm, Thane 213 mm and Colaba recorded 12 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

The cyclonic circulation which was responsible for these heavy rains has induced a low pressure area, which further intensified into a well-marked low and now lies over Kutch region. Strong south westerly winds are still feeding moisture over Mumbai and Maharashtra coast.

On and off rain and thundershowers are expected to continue over Mumbai and suburbs for at least next 24 hours in moderate intensity. After which the intensity will go down further and temperatures will rise, leading to sultry weather condition.

Skymet also added that the Mumbai weather will not go completely. Spot rain and passing showers are expected to continue in Mumbai for the next 4 to 5 days. Rain activities may increase around July 12 or 13. Flooding rains over Mumbai and suburbs are not expected for at least next one week.

Rains in the past 2-3 days has given the much needed relief from the heat which Mumbaikar's were looking forward to. However, there has been water logging in areas like Hindmata, Lower Parel and a few others low lying areas due to the incessant rains but the BMC managed to tackle the situation. There were also reports of traffic jams from some of these places.
