On Tuesday, January 18, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) christened a penguin chick and a tiger cub born in Mumbai's Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan also known as the Byculla Zoo, reported the news agency PTI.

According to the report, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar named the penguin chick Oscar and the cub was christened Veera during a press conference in the 3D auditorium of the zoo, highlighted a release by the civic body.

Based on the release, Molt (male) and Flipper (female), a pair of breeding penguins had laid an egg. Oscar was reportedly born on August 19, 2021.

On the other hand, the royal Bengal tigers, Shakti and Karishma were brought to the zoo from Aurangabad. They gave birth to Veera on November 14, 2021, cited accounts.

It was also reported that Dr Sanjay Tripathi, Zoo Director and other civic officials were present during the naming ceremony. The tigers were brought from Aurangabad in Maharashtra after a span of 15 years. It is believed that a natural habitat was made for them inside the enclosure.

The narrative further elaborates on how another pair of penguins, Donald and Daisy had given birth to a male chick on May 1, 2021, who was named Oreo.
