Over the past few years, Mumbaikars have never seen winter on time. While each year one feels winter is over, nature manages to surprise everyone as the temperatures start dipping. This is expected to happen in 2020 as well according to data gathered by India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz and Colaba observatories.

The Colaba weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5-degree celsius while IMD Santacruz saw a minimum temperature of 18.3-degree celsius. Weather experts mentioned that temperatures are expected to fall further from January 26 onwards.

Most parts of Mumbai were relatively cool last week with several residents donning sweaters and other winter clothing. However, with temperatures not expected to fall until this Sunday, we recommend not keeping those winter clothes aside for the time being.

KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director-General (western region) of the IMD said: “Winter is returning for Mumbai. This time south-central Maharashtra, along with northern parts of the state are likely to experience a drop in temperatures.”

Given that Mumbai is usually pretty hot, this fresh spell of winter will bring joy to the locals. However, the fact that winters are now delayed is definitely not a good sign and re-opned all the debates regarding climate change.
