11-year-old Mumbai boy lost eye after sparks from burning cracker hit him

The DN Nagar police are probing the incident. According to the police, the incident happened around 9 pm on Monday, November 1, while Bharankar was playing with his friends outside his residence.

In a heart-wrenching incident has come to light amid festivity, where an 11-year-old boy from Andheri (West) lost his left eye when sparks from a firecracker hit him while he was bursting some with his friends.

In addition to this, the incident has also left him with serious injuries to his nose, for which he received six stitches.

After the incident, the boy was rushed to a local hospital immediately with the help of some locals and later shifted to JJ Hospital where doctors performed multiple surgeries. The boy has been identified as Sai Anil Bharankar, a resident of Dhangar Wadi at Gilbert Hill Road, Andheri (West). 

The DN Nagar police are probing the incident. According to the police, the incident happened around 9 pm on Monday, November 1, while Bharankar was playing with his friends outside his residence. 

His mother told the police that he was standing at the corner of the road when his friends burst a firecracker that led to the incident. She also mentioned that at 8 pm after having dinner he left home to burst firecrackers with his friends. While he was standing at a corner of the road, his friends burst a cracker, sparks from which hit him.

This happened because the lane where they were bursting the crackers is too small. Doctors there performed multiple surgeries but unfortunately he lost an eye and is also not able to speak properly. The minor is still undergoing treatment. Therefore, police are yet to record his statement.
