Ganesh Utsav 2019: American designer 'Sai Suman' to design outfits for Andhericha Raja this year

Sai Suman has been a devotee of Andhericha Raja for many years now, and will be designing the outfits for the idol, for all the days.

Mumbai's popular, 54-year-old, Ganpati idol, Andhericha Raja, will be seen in designer wear this year, as a US-based designer, has come forward to contribute her skills and do the needful. The idol was taken to the pandal on Tuesday night and the devotees saw a  glimpse of the same where the idol was given a magenta shawl with golden and blue satin dhoti.

It is also said that the idol will be wearing a 24-carat gold broche on the first day of Ganeshotsav this year. Besides this, there will also be a ₹1.25 crore worth crown on the idol weighing 3kgs of gold, which was made four years ago by the association to celebrate the golden jubilee. This was made using the gold donated by the devotees over the years.

Talking about the same, Uday Salian, spokesperson for the Mandal said, “During our golden jubilee celebration four years ago, Suman had designed clothes for the idol. Ever since we have had devotees who donate cloth material and we then get the idol’s clothes stitched with a local tailor.”

Suman is a devotee of Andhericha Raja since childhood and decided to volunteer for this as she was in the country. Sharing her thought about the collection, the designer has kept a simple dhoti, as the attire resembles the outfit dancers wear during Bharatnatyam performances.
