The Maharashtra government, in its official statement, announced a change in the date for public holiday of Bakri Eid.

This development came after Congress leaders Arif Naseem Khan and Mudassar Patel demanded the state government to change the Eid-ul-Azha or Bakri eid holiday from June 28 to June 29.

Earlier, among the public holidays listed by the government for the year 2023, the public holiday of Bakri Eid was observed on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. However, the festival falls on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Therefore, the holiday on June 28 is canceled and public holiday is declared on Thursday, June 29, the notification stated.

The three-day festival begins on June 29 this year.

Every year, the state government prepares a list of holidays but sometimes dates of Muslim festivals change as they are decided on sightings of the new moon.
