On Wednesday, August 12, people across the country are busy celebrating the Janmashtami, or the birth of Lord Krishna. However, since the devotees have not been permitted to enter the temple due to the pandemic, they can watch Krishna Janmashtami live, in the comfort one’s own home.

How to watch the programme live: The main programme, which will begin at 11.00 pm on Wednesday with obeisance to 'Navagrah' (nine planets), followed by blowing of the conch, beating of cymbals and drums at midnight, can be watched on Youtube, on the official channels of ISKCON.

With the coronavirus affecting the country at large, several `Dahi-handi' groups in Maharashtra have decided to celebrate the Janmashtami festival in a low-key fashion, without the human pyramids. Bala Padalkar, Chief of the Dahi-handi Utsav Samnavay Samiti, speaking to the media stated that the Dahi Handi, which are the earthen pitches of curd, will only be broken symbolically.

Meanwhile, in Mathura, which is said to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, a heavy police force has been deployed at the entrance of main temples in order to prevent the devotees from entering the temples. According to reports, in a bid to maintain social distancing with the help of the Police, the 'Charnamrit' will be distributed in an open area in front of the Radha Raman Temple in Vrindavan.
