Moonshine Meadery, , India’s first meadery based out of Pune, Mumbai and now Goa is all set to introduce what they believe is their 'craziest mead' yet from their MeadLab stable – The Guava Chilli Mead

Newest Mead — The Guava Chilli Mead

Made by fermenting over 300kg of pink and white guavas along with multi-flora honey and Kolhapuri chilli's for 3 months, this is quite literally an adult version of your childhood snack. This amber coloured mead has the usual alcohol content of their flagships of 6.5%, but coupled with the chillies, this mead promises to give you that extra kick that’ll teleport you back the days when characters were limited to 160.

One can only imagine what the Gods must be thinking as they see this style of the world’s oldest beverage take on a new avatar in the 21st century – but we bet Odin would’ve asked for a repeat! This mead is available in limited edition bottles in Maharashtra only.

Speaking with Mumbai Live, co-founders Rohan Rehani and Nitin Vishwas had something to say about the newest mead

The Guava Chilli mead is #4 of our small batch MeadLab series. The intention behind the MeadLab batches is to create small batches of innovative meads, often using seasonal produce (we don't use artificial flavours)," Rohan Rehani.

Guava Chilli is meant to juxtapose a day in your childhood when you stood on a sidewalk and had a 'Peru with namak and mirchi’ with the now, the adult you, who loves to step into a bar after a tired day’s work and enjoy a drink — spiked memories," Nitin Vishwas.

Mead Wiki

Mead is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. The alcoholic content ranges from about 3.5% ABV to more than 20%. The defining characteristic of mead is that the majority of the beverage's fermentable sugar is derived from honey. It may be still, carbonated, or naturally sparkling; dry, semi-sweet, or sweet

The Moonshine Meadery Story

Asia’s first and India’s only meadery established in Pune, their meads have been available in Mumbai and Pune since February 2018 and have seen a strong demand since.

True to the ‘Make in India’ ideology, Moonshine Meadery is committed to staying natural and highlighting local produce in their meads, whether that is through apples from Kashmir, coffee from Karnataka or, of course, honey from various parts of India. The driving ethos is to bring together quality and innovation to offer a unique drinking experience – the true taste of Mead – with offerings ‘that make you go Mm’. The first two styles commercially available are the Apple Cider Mead and Coffee Mead. Moonshine’s meads are gluten free, with no artificial sugar, flavour, colour or aroma.

Driven by the philosophy of maximising flavour in every sip, they strive to offer more than just a new drink on the block. With a zeal to keep experimenting, they are constantly innovating new and interesting combinations of ingredients, as part of their Mead Lab Series. Minimalistic in approach, the meads are easy to understand and appreciate for both, a first-timer or a connoisseur. In addition to being a must- have on any foodie’s table, the Meadery and its products are doing their bit for the environment as well. By sourcing locally produced honey, they are encouraging apiculture in the country from the grass-root level upwards – and in turn, the conservation of the bees that make it.

The Guava Chilli mead is a clear indicator of how versatile meads can be. While the base remains honey, the 300 kg of Guava shine through, both on the nose and palate. The Kolhapuri chillies add that zing, which although subtle to begin with, becomes prominent as the glass stays in your hand.

Coming up next from the MeadLab series - The Hopped Mead followed by a bunch of crazy meads using Mangoes! Mead for summer indeed.
