Beed police constable Lalit Salve’s successful sex reassignment surgery gave hope to people who have been thronging St. George Hospital for the same. Till now, 12 people have enquired about sex reassignment surgery, informed Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, Medical Superintendent, St. George Hospital.

Of these 12 people, there is a 5-year-old girl who is undergoing identity dilemma and wants to change her sex. Her parents have approached the hospital for further formalities.

The five-year-old also hails from Beed’s Majalgaon village. When her parents suspected that their daughter had an identity dilemma, they made her undergo some tests which confirmed that the girl was inclining towards gender change. 

Police-constable Lalit Salve told Mumbai Live that parents of a five-year-old girl have approached him and he will try an help the parents in all possible ways.

Dr. Gaikwad said that out of 12 people, mostly women are the ones who are opting for sex-reassignment surgery. There is one 37-year-old Rita Devi, Assam resident, who wants to change her gender and was undergoing treatment for the same in a hospital in Assam. When she found out about St. George hospital, she flew to Mumbai. Dr. Gaikwad said that to perform the said surgery, important tests have to be carried out.

As she is only 5-years-old, her parents might have to go through some legal proceedings. Once it is cleared, we will go ahead with the surgery,” said Dr Gaikwad.
