Considering the growing population of Panvel taluka, the government on Wednesday approved in principle the proposal given by the health department to build a 200-bed general hospital for the people of Panvel. Health Department Upper Secretary Arvind More announced the decision on Wednesday. This will strengthen the future health facilities of Panvelkar. The population of Panvel will reach 25 lakhs in the next few years. The Panvel area has gained more importance due to Navi Mumbai International Airport. 


Raigad District Surgeon Dr. Ambadas Devmane had sent a proposal to the Public Health Department for upgrading the 100-bed hospital to a 200-bed hospital. While giving in-principle approval to the same proposal on Wednesday, in the government decision taken by the Under Secretary to the Government, Arvind More, it has been said that the Health Department will take separate action for the construction of the hospital on that site by providing the space required for this hospital through the prescribed process.

The decision has also clearly stated that after the government decision, the Public Works Department should take up the work of preparing the budget and plan for the construction of the respective hospital. Dr. Devmane, surgeon of Raigad district, informed that after the decision of the government on Wednesday, a team of the public works department will inspect the existing building and the premises of the sub-district hospital of Panvel on Thursday.


Five acres of land will be required for the new hospital. Finding a new site for the hospital, possession of the site, financial approval for the new construction of the hospital, recruitment process for the hospital, approval of the recruitment process, financial provision of the post, all the red tapes, construction of the hospital in the new site and the recruitment of the hospital will take several years. The construction of the present Upazila Hospital started in February 2011. Actually this hospital was started in September 2019. Due to the government's slow-moving red tape, the building of the 100-bed Upazila Hospital can be strengthened and floors raised as well as the construction of a new hospital can be undertaken in the vacant hospital premises.
