On Tuesday night, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received a fresh stock of one lakh COVID vaccine doses.

According to reports, the civic body will now resume the vaccination of people above 45 years at government vaccination centres. It further informed, "Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation received a fresh stock of one lakh vaccine doses last night and it will resume vaccination of people above 45 years at BMC's and government vaccination centres,"

Meanwhile, in the midst of a shortage of vaccines for the coronavirus, the BMC had stated that vaccination for those aged 45 years and above will be closed on Monday, while vaccination for 18 to 44 years will continue only at five centres. Moreover, citizens who have registered themselves in CoWIN app and who have been given the prescribed immunisation centre and time (slot) were being given the jab.

On the other hand, earlier, the civic bodies in Mumbai had to halt COVID-19 vaccination for the 45-plus age group and health and frontline workers as there has been no supply of the vaccine for some time now.

In addition, at the state level, too, the stocks are depleted, said a senior official of the public health department. However, at such a time, the Maharashtra government has begun the next phase of inoculation from May 1, where all between 18-44 years of age can get vaccinated.

Furthermore, an official said that the state has not received any fresh stock from the Centre since April 26. The vaccination drive in the state had gathered momentum in the second fortnight of April, with an average of three lakh people being vaccinated in a day.
