Mumbai: 65 booths activated to administer COVID-19 vaccine today

Authorities have stated that 65 booths have been activated to vaccinate 7,200-9,500 healthcare workers on Monday across the city.

From Monday, January 25, a large number of immunization booths are to be functional across Mumbai to administer the vaccine for the coronavirus.

As per the reports, nine of ten vaccination centres across the city and additional booths will be functional from today, January 25. In addition, authorities have stated that 65 booths have been activated to vaccinate 7,200-9,500 healthcare workers on Monday. In the first week of vaccination, 40 booths were operationalised while the daily target was around 4,000.

According to reports, the target of beneficiaries has been doubled as well for Monday’s drive. Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani added the centres have been prepared to carry out up to 9,500 immunisations on Monday. “We are intensifying the drive from today. All four medical colleges, KEM, Nair, Sion and Cooper, will have ten booths instead of five, while BKC jumbo will have 15 booths,” he said.

Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, January 22, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) became the first airport in the country to export the Covishield vaccine to international destinations. CSMIA has initiated the international shipment of the vaccine to Brazil and Morocco.

On the other hand, so far, a total of 9,105 health workers have taken the COVID-19 vaccine shots in Maharashtra's Thane district since the launch of the immunisation drive on January 16. On Saturday, 2,366 health workers, or 102.87 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries, were administered the vaccine at 23 centres in Thane, district health officer Dr Manish Renge informed. Moreover, so far, 9,105 health workers, or 79.17 per cent of the registered beneficiaries, have been given the vaccine doses in the district since the launch of the drive.
