In a recently taken decision, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, Abhijeet Bangar has instructed all the concerned agencies of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to be ready for the second wave of coronavirus outbreak. As per reports, officials have been instructed to pay special attention regarding the same and find patients in a quick manner. Keeping this in mind, NMMC has set a target of conducting more than 4,000 tests in a day, and to facilitate the same, the corporation has been set up COVID-19 centres at several areas like APMC markets, MIDC and railway stations in Navi Mumbai.

A health team comprising of six members has been deployed at the exits of railway stations in Navi Mumbai and have been given the responsibility to conduct COVID-19 tests from 8 am to 1 pm. Similar testing centres have been set up at Belapur, Nerul and Vashi railway stations since Monday. Teams can conduct RT-PCR tests by observing symptoms of the commuters.

Data reveals that on the first day alone, more than 400 citizens received antigen and RT-PCR tests. Officials at other railway stations will also be tested by the health teams.

Besides this, employees working in the MIDC areas are also being tested for COVID-19 by the respective companies and this decision was taken after officials noted that thousands of workers were travelling to-and-from the surrounding areas. Keeping everyone's safety in mind, the commissioner has directed the companies to investigate them and other traders like hawkers, grocers, retailers, fruit and vegetable sellers, rickshaw pullers etc. who come in contact with the general public all day as a part of their business. Proceedings in this regard have also been initiated promptly.
