There has been a constant increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Keeping that in mind, BMC has taken a decision that people can get themselves tested for coronavirus even without a doctor’s prescription. Earlier it was compulsory to have a doctor’s prescription before getting a test done. But from today (July 7) one can get the test done without a prescription in Mumbai. After receiving a letter by ICMR the commissioner of BMC Iqbal Singh Chahal has confirmed this news.

In private labs, it was mandatory for people to get a prescription from the doctor in order to get oneself tested, but now it will not be a pre-existing condition. The BMC believes that with this step it will become easier for them to treat the suspected cases before anything becomes serious. This step will come across as a huge relief for the people of Mumbai as they will not have to think twice or be scared of getting themselves tested.

With the existing number of coronavirus cases, India stands at number three. U.S and Brazil are at number one and two. The total number of coronavirus cases in India is 7,21,310.

Meanwhile, the state of Maharashtra witnessed 6,555 cases of coronavirus on July 5. This took the COVID-19 tally to 2,11,987 cases. Currently, there are 87,681 active cases in the state. With 3,522 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 1,15,262 cases.
