As per reports, after the US-based Moderna released interim data that showed its vaccine for the coronavirus to be 94.5 per cent effective the Indian government has opened a dialogue with them.

According to Business Standard, while players like Hyderabad-based Indian Immunologicals (IIL) say they are open to a manufacturing collaboration with Moderna, the government of India may directly purchase the vaccine from Moderna and distribute it here in the country. This announcement follows that by US giant Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech last week that their vaccine for COVID-19 was found to be more than 90 per cent effective.

In the past, back in July, Moderna, the US biotech company focused on drug discovery and drug development had stated that it would enter the final stage of human trials for the vaccine for coronavirus. The announcement came after the results from an earlier trial proved that the COVID-19 vaccine was safe as activated antibody production were published. The next stage was touted to be a phase-three trial that recruited at least 30,000 participants in the US, with half to receive the vaccine at 100 microgram dose levels, and the other half to receive a placebo.

As per reports, the researchers are to then track them over two years to comprehend if they are protected against the contagious disease or, if they do get infected, whether the vaccine prevents symptoms from developing. Even if the people develop symptoms, the vaccine will still be considered to be a success if it helps severe cases of the coronavirus.
