The growing number of mucormycosis or black fungus patients in the state has raised concerns.

According to reports, the maximum cases of mucormycosis due to COVID-19 in Maharashtra have been reported in Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Solapur and Mumbai. Besides, the number of deaths in these districts is also among the highest in the state.

So far 9,268 cases of black fungus have been detected in the state, while 5,091 recoveries and 1,112 deaths are reported. Nearly 2,900 people are undergoing treatment.

The death rate due to black fungus in the state is 12 per cent.

Nagpur has the highest number of black fungus patients in the state, followed by Pune. So far 1,521 cases of black fungus have been found in Nagpur while 152 people have lost their lives.

Meanwhile, Pune has recorded 1,241 cases and 163 deaths. Aurangabad has the third highest number of cases, at 1043, according to a state report of cases till July 4. Whereas, 99 deaths Aurangabad were reported.

Mumbai has reported 620 cases and 104 deaths. Solapur has reported 589 cases and 81 deaths till July 14.

As on July 14, Nashik has 659 cases and 72 deaths, Sangli reported 314 cases and 29 deaths, Ahmednagar reported 280 cases and 23 deaths, and Thane reported 271 cases and 42 deaths.
