The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has reached out to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, seeking financial assistance for a cancer hospital and research institute in Mira Road. The party's state secretary and former leader of opposition at the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), Dr. Asif Shaik, met with Pawar to request the allocation of INR 134 crore needed for the project.

The hospital has been stalled due to delays in the provision of the necessary funds by the Maharashtra government. The proposed hospital, estimated to cost INR 134 crore, is planned to be built on a 3,200-square-meter area combining two plots.

The hospital is expected to serve more than a million people from the area and vicinity. There has long been a need for such a facility, which would serve people between Palghar and Parel. With this hospital in operation,  patients and their families will not have to travel to Parel for cancer treatment. Pawar assured Shaik that he would ensure the funds were allocated as soon as possible.

On April 22, 2023, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis virtually laid the foundation stone for several projects, including the cancer hospital in the strategically location of Sai Baba Nagar in Mira Road. Fadnavis had assured that the state government would provide all the necessary funds for the proposed cancer hospital and research facility. But the plan to establish a full-fledged cancer treatment hospital has been on hold for the past six months.

The cancer hospital is expected to resemble the one built in Nagpur. It will feature a chemotherapy ward, an imaging centre, an outpatient department (OPD), an operation theatre, an ICU, a blood bank, a laboratory, general wards, premium rooms, a conference room, a waiting area, dormitories, and a doctor's lounge.
