Recently, the government had imposed certain restrictions on those who are not fully vaccinated due to the growing fear of the Omicron variant.

The health experts are now concerned about the differently-abled and vulnerable groups with vaccine allergies whose rights are not addressed while drafting the coronavirus norms.

In a report published by Mid-day, experts stated that the concerned health authorities should come up with a certification process for them. In this way, those individuals would be exempted from hefty fines.

Professor of Medicine, Grant Medical College and Sir J J Group of Hospitals, and senior allergy specialist Dr Wiqar Shaikh stated that it is vital to take the vaccine, adding that the Central Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has laid conditions for people who are not to take the vaccine.

However, there are no guidelines in the country as to who would certify the allergy status of an individual. He feels that the National Health Mission should issue a notification regarding the same. These individuals should be provided with a special card, he added further.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has alerted its ward rooms, hospitals and jumbo centres about Omicron. On Saturday, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government had also issued the revised COVID-19 guidelines for the citizens to prevent the spread of the virus.
