A team led by Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan, Consultant Cardio thoracic & Vascular Surgery, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road gave a new lease of life to a 56-year-old male Dey resident of Vasai road who had come with the chief complaint of Chest Pain.

Dey *(Name changed) based in Vasai was experiencing multiple symptoms including chest pain on exertion, anaemia due to bleeding PR (per rectum), B/L moderate carotid artery disease, Moderate LV dysfunction and mild to moderate mitral regurgitation. He underwent Coronary Angiogram which diagnosed him with critical calcific TVD (Triple Vessel Disease). The man underwent treatment by a team of Drs including Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan (CVTS Surgeon), Dr Mrudul Dharod (Gastroenterologist), Dr Dipesh Pimpale (Neurologist) and Dr Anup Taksande (Cardiologist). He further underwent Off Pump CABG Surgery by Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan.

Dr Mayuresh Pradhan, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road said, “Every month we have been treating a lot of patients with heart complaints. Lifestyle disorder, stress, food habits, lack of sleep and multiple factors lead to heart problems at all age groups. Bypass surgery needs to be performed at a center which is well equipped to manage all the complex cases and has all the required in-house facilities like a dedicated Cardiac OT, Cathlab, ICU and multi-disciplinary team.

On-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is the original technique, but off-pump or beating heart surgery is the most recent technique. The surgery had a good outcome. The patient has completely recovered and is back to his normal lifestyle.

When asked more about the complexity of the case, Dr Pradhan said traditionally, bypass surgery is done by stopping the heart and using a heart-lung machine. But now the latest method, called off-pump or beating heart surgery. Off-pump CABG, is widely used to perform bypass surgery while keeping the heart in beating condition. And with the rising cases of diabetes and kidney ailments among the heart patients, Off-pump CABG is safer and has lesser complications, compared to on-pump or traditional surgery.” Dr Pradhan, who has conducted more than 2,500 bypass surgeries for over 15+ years now operates at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.

“Due to exertion I was facing chest pain and also this was disturbing my daily activities. When we underwent check-up we realized multiple problems. We are thankful to the team of doctors due to which now I am doing my daily activities,” said the heart patient Dey.
