The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is working round the clock to ensure that they can contain the coronavirus from spreading. It has already shared that they will be looking at expanding the testing facility for this deadly virus.

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh announced that the government has arranged three new testing labs in the city, which will be able to screen the coronavirus samples. These testing centres located at KEM Hospital, Kasturba Hospital and BJ Hospital, will be functional from Thursday, March 19, 2020.

He went on to add that the state is looking at having eight such testing centres in the next few days, which will be able to test 180-250 samples per centre.

Apart from this, there are plans being chalked out to have isolation wards in 12 private hospitals. These hospitals include Jaslok, Reliance, Fortis, Lilavati and Bombay Hospital.  These private hospitals will work as per the guidelines laid down by BMC to treat COVID-19 patients. Earlier the government had readied a 300-bed facility in Seven Hills Hospital.

While there are long queues outside Kasturba hospital but the hospital still has the capacity to take more inmates. Further to this, HBT trauma centre too has readied a 20-bed isolation facility that started from Tuesday, March 17.

Besides this, the city of Pune will also have 10 isolation centres.

Currently, there are 44 active cases in the state. On Wednesday, there have been one new case registered in Pune and Mumbai. As per the ministry of health and family welfare, there are 134 active cases in the country including foreign nationals. The total number of people that have tested positive in India is 151.
