The number of people testing positive for coronavirus or COVID-19 are increasing rapidly in India. On March 21, the total number of cases have already zoomed past the 300-mark and four people have died due to this. Maharashtra,  Delhi and Kerala seem to be the worst impacted states from coronavirus.

According to Indian council of Medical research (ICMR), India is still in the stage 2, which is Local transmission. What this  means is that if a person gets infected with coronavirus we can trace the person who passed on the infected. Various civic bodies, state and central government are leaving no stones unturned to make sure that India does not progress to stage 3.

In order to contain this virus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi have proposed 'Janta Curfew'. So before we get to know what all services will be up and running and what will be shut first let's understand what is Janta Curfew.

Janta Curfew: what it means?

In a bid to stop this deadly virus to spread, the prime minister, in a televised address to the nation, announced a ‘Janata Curfew’ from 7 am to 9 pm Sunday, 22 March. It is a self imposed curfew in which he has suggested that people should not venture outdoors unless they are engaged in emergenc services, healthcare, media or in security.

Modi added that going forward this the day will act as symbol of “our self-control” and the experience will prepare the country for coming challenges. He has also appealed to state governments and civil society organizations to ensure that people are made aware of the ‘Janata Curfew’.

In addition to this, at 5 pm Sunday, state administrations will ring a siren that will signal people to come out to their doorsteps or in their balconies to express gratitude to those who have been working  tirelessly theough this health crisis. Talking about this Modi said, “For the last two months, lakhs of people at airports, hospitals, cleaning staff, media and transport sector have been putting themselves at risk for others. India is grateful to them, and citizens should express their gratitude to these people on Sunday.”
